Each year, UMass Dartmouth hosts a special event to honor and celebrate the enduring legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As a tribute to Dr. King's vision, leadership, and commitment to equality and justice, the event will feature a full breakfast, musical performances, remarks from Chancellor Mark A. Fuller, and a keynote address from New York Times best-selling author and award-winning historian Dr. Keisha N. Blain.

Event Highlights
Dr. Keisha N. Blain is an award-winning historian whose work reshapes understandings of race, gender, and politics in national and global contexts. A Professor of Africana Studies and History at Brown University, she earned her Ph.D. in History from Princeton University in 2014 and is a columnist for MSNBC and former president of the African American Intellectual History Society. A 2022 Guggenheim Fellow and Andrew Carnegie Fellow, Blain is the author of the acclaimed Set the World on Fire and Until I Am Free, both celebrated for illuminating Black women’s leadership in freedom struggles. Her latest book, Without Fear, offers a sweeping history of Black women’s central role in shaping the modern human rights movement. Blain has edited five books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Four Hundred Souls. A highly sought-after speaker, her commentary appears widely across major national and international media outlets.

Location & Parking
The event will be held at the Marketplace, located across from the Campus Center and above the Frederick Douglass Unity House. Parking is available in Lots 4 and 5.
