Alumni Surveys

Recent Graduates Survey (RGS)

Recent graduates of UMass Dartmouth are asked to complete a brief survey following their graduation from the university. In accordance with the reporting conventions of various higher education survey groups, such as U.S. News & World Report and Peterson's, the survey is administered six months after graduation for undergraduate degree earners and three months after graduation for graduate degree earners*. Students are asked to provide updated information on their activities following graduation (e.g., employment and further study).

*This data collection schedule was implemented in academic year (AY) 2012-2013. Data for periods prior to AY 2012-2013 do not follow this collection procedure.

NACE Data Collection of Recent Graduates

NACE’s data collection efforts capture information regarding how new college graduates fare in their careers within six months of graduation for undergraduate degree recipients and within three months for graduate level degree recipients.  The annual data collection provides clear, concise, and consistent data on the outcomes associated with a college education on a national scale. Outcomes include 1) types of employment—full or part time, contract, freelance, entrepreneurship, etc.; 2) additional education, e.g., accepted to graduate or professional school; 3) still seeking either employment or further education; 4) and starting salary for those employed full time.

Recent graduates of UMass Dartmouth are asked to complete a brief Recent Graduate Survey (RGS) following their degree completion from the university.  To increase the knowledge rate of our graduating class and for NACE data reporting, online datamining and phone interviews are completed for those who did not respond to the RGS survey invitations.  RGS survey data on alumni activities following graduation (e.g., employment and further study) are merged with datamining efforts aligned with NACE for a more comprehensive depiction of our graduating class.

*NACE data collection and datamining were implemented in the academic year (AY) 2018-2019.

Five-Year Out Alumni Survey

Every three years, an alumni survey developed at UMass Dartmouth is administered to undergraduate alumni of the university. The survey is administered to the undergraduate class that earned degrees approximately five years prior to the survey period. The first administration of the Five-Year Out Alumni Survey was in academic year 2011-2012 with the Class of 2006. The survey collects information from undergraduate alumni on overall satisfaction with their UMass Dartmouth experience, career and graduate/professional school outcomes, civic engagement, and interest in alumni connections.
