Office of Community Standards

The Office of Community Standards is responsible for overseeing the development, distribution, and enforcement of university student conduct regulations.

The office reinforces the university's community standards and expectations for individual behavior through a process that promotes individual responsibility and education. 

Our Mission:

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Student Conduct Program is committed to fostering an inclusive campus community that promotes active and responsible citizenship through an educational and developmental process that values respect, responsibility, and accountability for all University Community members. 

Program Goals: 

  • Promote a consistent, fair, and timely student conduct process that encourages participation of the campus community while holding students accountable for their choices. 
  • Educate the campus community about student’s rights and responsibilities as a member of the University community. 
  • Assist students in seeking out resources for learning and living that enhance the student’s overall well- being and help students think critically in their decision-making.
  • Facilitate on-going comprehensive conduct related training for students, staff, and faculty that are involved in the student conduct program. 

Program Outcomes: 

As a result of going through the student conduct program, students will be able to: 

  1. Explain why University policies exist and why the University community is concerned about their choice(s). 
  2. Understand the impact of their behavior and decision-making on themselves and the community. 
  3. Communicate their personal responsibility for their behavior within the University community. 
  4. Identify ways to address their actions(s) so that their choices do not negatively impact their educational goals and success in the future.

UMass Dartmouth's community standards are designed to encourage the ideal of self-governance and student self-discipline.

Appointments with the Office of Community Standards

Appointments with the Office of Community Standards at UMass Dartmouth will be scheduled based off your academic schedule. Your meeting notice will have the location, day and time of your Conduct Meeting. Also Failure to attend or communicate a scheduling conflict for your appointment will result in the case being heard without your participation and you will forfeit your right to an appeal. 

Email and Text Communications from Maxient

The Office of Community Standards at UMass Dartmouth uses the web-based case management system, Maxient. If you receive any emails or notifications from Maxient, please review them carefully as they contain important information regarding your case and conduct proceedings. Maxient is our primary tool for ensuring timely and efficient communication, so please check your email regularly and respond as needed.
