  "SITA" BECOMES FIRST INTERNET ACCESS PROVIDER IN CAPE VERDE Subject to confirmation, the Sociedade Internacional de Telecomunicacoes Aeronauticas (SITA) which has an office in Praia and on Sal is offering access to the Internet to local Cape Verdean potential clients.  Any local businesses, private individual or organization should contact SITA direct to acquire a subscription form and software. Tel. Praia 615796 or 613273, or Sal 411220 for enquiries.  Write a letter, fax  or telephone your colleagues, family and friends out in Cabo Verde to advise them to approach SITA. SITA will also be opening a branch office in Mindelo soon.

  Cape Verdeans are essentially diverse.  We are a mixture of African Portuguese and other races.  It has been my experience that amongst ourselves we encounter disparity when dealing with the origin of our ethnic makeup.  Primarily I'm speaking about the influence of Africa and African culture that most definately exists in all of us!4True, most of us are not of complete African blood, but some of us deny that there is any relation to Africa.  I feel that to deny an aspect of your ethnic root and favor another4(Portuguese) is ludicrous, especially when most of us have physical attributes that suggest that we are very much people of color.4

  I work for a transportation company, and we are looking to start a seafreight service between the USA East Coast and Cape Verde in partnership with another company in The Netherlands. We would consolidate shipments ranging from small packages on up to larger consignment, include them in our weekly ocean container to Rotterdam where they would be trans-shipped to Cape Verde.   CONGRATULATIONS to Chad Call and to all of the FRIENDS OF CAPE VERDE in the USA who made the effort to contact U.S. government officials by mail, telephone or "buttonholed" them at community events throughout the summer to express their solidarity with the people of Cape Verde and press for a continuation of US FOOD AID TO CAPE VERDE.

  Let us be reminded that history has taught us that in the case of lobbying on behalf of Cabo Verde the words of the late Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tip O'Neil, have special application. Tip O'Neil coined the phrase that "ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL".

  In the defense of Cape Verde's PERMANENT INTERESTS in the USA politics must always be taken to a HIGHER LEVEL, a level beyond the limitations of international diplomacy, to the level of the PEOPLE of Cape Verde in America and the Friends of Cape Verde. In Cape Verdean-American affairs, all politics is indeed a local affair.

    see such a wealth of information about Cape Verde's
    people and culture presented to the world.  Such 
    informations will undoubtly assit many individuals around
    the globe, to better understand Cape Verde's unique

  FOOD AID PROGRAM APPROVAL PENDING
  Approval of the PL 480, Title II food aid progam
  looks positive. At this time we are waiting for the
  official word from US AID.  The efforts of the
  Cape Verdean communities and the Home Page 
  have been noticed and most definitely have
  had a positive impact on the decision making process.
  Many thanks to all those who have let their 
  representatives know that they are in support of 
  a continued food aid program. Stay tuned for 
  the final decision.
