Grounds & Landscaping

Grounds & Disposal Services (GDS) plays a crucial role in the upkeep of the state-funded campus facilities. Our comprehensive scope of services includes diligently caring for the campus' lush greenery through tasks like planting, pruning, fertilizing, and pest control. Certified arborists are on hand to assess and maintain the health of the campus trees, providing services such as trimming, removal, and health treatments. Moreover, GDS ensures the overall appearance and functionality of the grounds, overseeing outdoor furniture, signage, and other elements. The department responsibly manages responsible refuse disposal and coordinates the UMassD recycling program. Additionally, they maintain the safety and accessibility of the campus by overseeing hard-surface areas such as sidewalks, pathways, and parking lots, as well as ensuring athletic fields are in optimal condition for sports activities. In regions experiencing winter conditions, GDS efficiently handles snow removal to facilitate safe movement. Furthermore, their involvement in landscape installation and green space development adds to the campus's visual charm.

The operating hours of GDS are 5am to 5pm Monday through Friday. GDS is prepared to go above and beyond, and can accommodate requests for services outside of these hours in order to meet the diverse needs of the campus community. Grounds and Disposal Services is dedicated to enhancing the beauty, functionality, and sustainability of the UMassD campus. Our services can be extended to non-state funded activities as well.
