Before You Board: Bringing Your Financial Aid Abroad
Resources Available to You Before you Apply

• Apply for aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The FAFSA link is: fafsa.gov

• FAFSA Labs begin in October. For details, check our website at: https://www.umassd.edu/financialaid/

• Check out our International Programs Office (IPO) website at: https://www.umassd.edu/ipo/studyabroad/finances--scholarships/

• Review your financial aid award in COIN. Note the types of aid that can be “transferred” toward study abroad and what cannot.

Your Financial Aid Advisor will confer with the Scholarship Coordinator to determine your scholarship eligibility

• Study Abroad questions? Stop by the International Programs Office (IPO) to meet with a Study Abroad Advisor. Learn the costs of the various programs that interest you. You and your advisor will complete a “Pre-Application Study Abroad/Financial Aid Advising Form” for each program of interest. The IPO Office is located in Library 233 or email at: intl_programs@umassd.edu

• Financial aid questions? After you meet with your Study Abroad Advisor, make an appointment with your financial aid advisor. Bring a completed “Pre-Application Study Abroad/Financial Aid Advising Form” for the programs you would like to review.
