Biography:


John M. Rice is a Professor, with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University (1974), a M.S. degree in Applied Mechanics from Stanford University (1977), and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering & Applied Mechanics from the University of Rhode Island (1984).

He has taught at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMD) since 1984, primarily in the area of Solid Mechanics and Computer-Aided Engineering. His research interests include Finite Elements, Boundary Elements, Composite Materials, Acoustics, and Vibrations.

He has had engineering experience before his appointment at UMD, including, working as a Mechanical Engineer for Failure Analysis Associates, Palo Alto, California, (1977-1978), and working as a Mechanical Engineer for the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center as a Mechanical Engineer in Newport, Rhode Island, (1975-2001), Consultant for Albany International, (1993-1996), and Expert Legal Witness for more than 20 cases, (1986-1998).
