Students interested in school-based support roles can also pursue a School Counseling license (a psychology major is the recommended undergraduate route). The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) offers undergraduate programs in music education and art education, and a Art Education MAE Online graduate program.
Programs for undergraduates
This program allows students to choose their passion and teach from there. You will earn a bachelor's degree in your chosen subject area, graduating with a degree in that field while simultaneously working towards your MAT.
During your undergraduate degree, you will take courses preparing you to teach in a classroom before you begin your +1 graduate year. This provides a significant advantage because it allows students to gain important teaching skills without sacrificing their passion for a specific subject area. Students can pair the 4+1 Accelerated Master's in Teaching with a self-designed multidisciplinary studies (MDS) major, combining coursework from any UMass Dartmouth college into a program built around the exact subject matter that you desire.
Any undergraduate can explore education courses by enrolling in EDU 207: Perspectives in Teaching before committing to the accelerated MAT program.
