Title: Investigating Synergetic Treatment of Semaglutide on Osteocyte Behavior Under Hyperglycemic Conditions
Abstract:
Patients with diabetes mellitus exhibit increased bone fragility, which results in a heightened risk of bone traumas. While the effects of glycemic conditions on bone health are not fully understood, it is likely that advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) play a critical role in the deterioration of bone health in diabetes mellitus patients. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists have gained widespread use, particularly among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for their glycemic control and weight management benefits. This study attempts to elucidate the effects of semaglutide on osteocytes cultured in hyperglycemic conditions, which would allow a better understanding of the effects of GLP-1s on T2DM bone metabolism and uncover a novel application for these drugs on bone health.
