Topic: “Edge Intelligence: Roadmap to Energy-Efficiency and Security”
Abstract: Edge computing has the potential to bring artificial intelligence (AI) closer to the masses by taking care of the heavy computing load with low latency. However, we still need to ensure less resource and energy consumption, and security and privacy of the edge-AI applications. These research issues need to be addressed to ensure that edge intelligence reaches and impacts society on a larger scale.
In this talk, research efforts towards energy-efficiency and security of edge-AI will be presented, along with the associated research challenges, along with strategies to enhance overall Quality-of-Service (QoS) of AI applications while promoting mass use and less resource consumption, thus advancing AI mobility using edge intelligence. This research contributes to numerous cyber-physical systems, as well as to the national economy and security.
Biography: Anik Mallik is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Towson University. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he researched augmented reality and AI applications in mobile devices using edge computing. He is a computing systems researcher and specializes in experimental testbed development. His current work involves developing energy-efficient algorithms for resilient edge intelligence with abundant applications in numerous cyber-physical and quantum computing systems. With these research thrusts, he has been actively contributing to collaborative research works with George Mason University, Georgia State University, InfoTech Labs Toyota Motor North America, and DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL).
