Abstract:
Dr. Nathan Furey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and leads the Fish and Movement Ecology Lab. His lab’s research attempts to quantify the motivations and consequences of animal movements across aquatic taxa and freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems. Many movements are in response to foraging and avoiding predation, and thus the Fish and Movement Ecology Lab also conducts investigations into predator-prey interactions, diet, and bioenergetics. This seminar will explore multiple model systems where predator movements are uniquely influenced by prey availability, with potential consequences to fitness. These systems span salmon-bearing systems in British Columbia to the Canadian high Arctic to the Gulf of Maine.
