Resident Lounge in Balsam Hall

First-year housing at UMass Dartmouth

Living on campus is one of the best ways to dive into your college experience. As a first-year student, you’ll be part of a vibrant community where friendships, late-night study sessions, and plenty of campus activities are just steps away. Our first-year residence halls, Balsam and Spruce, are designed to help you feel at home from day one. You’ll have the chance to meet people with similar interests, get involved in hall events, and build the foundation for your UMassD journey.

Where first-year students live

First-year students live in Balsam and Spruce Halls, which primarily offer double-occupancy rooms. A limited number of single rooms are also available for students who prefer or require them.

Each hall has common areas where you can hang out, study, or join in activities organized by your Resident Assistant (RA). You’ll also have access to laundry facilities, study lounges, and plenty of opportunities to connect with your hallmates.
