Changes to Supported Email Applications

On August 22, 2018, CITS discontinued support for email clients that only provide older authentication protocols. This will discourage cyber-attacks, and reduce the number of unexpected account lockouts caused by automated hacking attempts.

CITS only supports access to email using clients that support modern (Microsoft OAuth2) authentication methods. These include:

  • Access via a web browser: use the web version of Outlook via the myUMassD portal
  • Microsoft Outlook client for Android, iOS, MacOS and Windows
  • Apple Mail for iOS 11.4 and newer

Apple is also expected to include OAuth2 support for Mail running under MacOS 10.14, Mojave. Current MacOS Mail users are urged to contact CITS immediately to prevent disruption to their email service. Contact the IT Service Center at 508.999.8790 or enter a help request at ithelp.umassd.edu.

Current Linux users should work with their departmental technicians to configure a Linux mail client that works with the OAuth2 protocol.

Changes to Account Management

Updated Account Management and Self Service tools are now in place. New students and employees will be prompted to setup security questions, and select a phone number to manage their accounts via self service tools.

Existing students and employees must also set up Self Service Account Verification methods by setting security questions and a phone number. Note that these tools are part of our Microsoft Office 365 suite, and have a different appearance.

Click to proceed. If you see green circles next to your selected phone number and questions, then you have already set up your Self Service Account Verification successfully.
