Share the Dream essay by Nicholas Almeida
My name is Nicholas Almeida, I’m a mechanical engineer and I’m from Charlestown and not a good part of it. The part that most forget exists, the projects. Originally my mother had moved to America after living in Cape Verde for most of their lives so that I could have a better life. I think I understand another reason why they left home to go to a new city, because after living in Boston for my entire life I’ve stopped appreciating everything around me because I’ve seen it so often that it’s not as impressive as it is. So, I’ve started to go out more and go farther than before just to find things that I’ve never seen, smelled, or eaten before.
My main goal is to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Moving to a place to be on my own has always been a dream of mine, and it can partially be granted by going to a college that isn’t close to home. An amazing college at that, because UMass Dartmouth has been one of my top schools to think about even before I graduated high school early. This college has been my dream to go to ever since.
My education will help society because I’ll be repairing damaged electronics and making new electronics, I’ll also be planning on helping Nvidia on pushing the world into the future of AI technology. This will help doctors get diagnosis’ quicker, it will also help other engineers build more efficiently because with an AI model they’ll be able to find ideas they’d never had before and form it into something that will genuinely work.
