My name is Markus Andrews. I come from a family of 6 with 5 siblings, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and my mother. I am 18 years old, born on June 17th, 2007. I was born at St. Lukes hospital in New Bedford Massachusetts but lived in Dartmouth for most of my life. Most of my family that I know is Portuguese coming from the mainland while on my father's side, they are cape Verdean. My favorite things to do are spend time with family and friends, watch sports, and play video games

My biggest accomplishment so far would have to be enrolling in college and making it this far. I am a first generation student so this is something new for my family. My siblings did not take the college route, so the road may have been a little bumpy for them, so I think going to college has taken some weight off my mom's shoulders while she still supports and cares for me every day.

I chose to Enroll here at UMass Dartmouth for many reasons, 1 having to be the proximity from home, it is about a 10 minute drive to school making it easy to attend school while managing day to day tasks. I also chose UMass Dartmouth because I knew my major would have something to do with business, and UMass Dartmouth is a great business school.

College now has been useful for me personally, the most helpful part is meeting with my advisor every week along with the tips, support, and help from the people working with college now. College is very different from high school. I remember my first week of college, for example when I fell a little behind due to nobody really guiding me around and telling me what assignments to do or need to get done. An activity i take part in at schools is being a part of the football team, not only does playing football build toughness and discipline, but it also allows me to create bonds and memories with friends that will last forever.

I plan on contributing to society by just trying to make the world a better place. I like making people happy and seeing them smile, my education could help add to that by allowing myself to be open to different opportunities and meeting new people. One thing in the world that I for sure want to change is the amount of kindness. Personally, I feel like isnt enough empathy and consideration for other people but that is just the way we’ve come to live. My career goals are to be as successful as possible and to create a loving family. I would like to become a realtor after college and work in the Boston area and hopefully sell top notch homes.
