Share the Dream essay by Christian Correia
My name is Christian Correia. I'm from Boston, Massachusetts. I grew up in a large cape verden community in Roxbury and Dorchester. I have a big family and they always remind me of where I came from. My family is a main part of my journey. They shaped who I am today. I've been taught hard work, responsibility, empathy, how to deal with things, discipline, and so much more. Growing up with my family taught me to care for others and give back. Because of all this they guide me to my goals. I am thankful for everything that they taught me.
I chose to enroll at UMass Dartmouth because I got into the college now program and it seemed like the right fit. UmassD has a lot to offer socially and academically. Right now I want to get a degree in business and I plan to focus on management information systems but I also want to try different things like engineering or finance in the future. My goals as a student is to get a GPA that I'm proud of, gaining new skills, getting internships or jobs, and to build my network. UmassD has support that I need to help me achieve these goals.
After earning my degree all the knowledge that I have learned will help contribute to society by improving the people and communities around me. I don't know how I'm going to do that right now but I'll find out eventually. I hope to apply what I learn to the real world and make an impact within the world. I want to help out while making the people I love happy. I hope that everything that I do can leave a positive impact on everyone and things around me.
