Share the Dream essay by Chase Davis
My name is Chase Davis, and I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. I come from Roxbury in a small neighborhood, and I’m multi-racial, including African American, Dominican, Jewish, German, Irish, and European. In my family, on my mom’s side, I’m Dominican and African American, but I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic before; I’ve always wanted to go and visit my family members who live there. On my Dad’s side, I’m European, Jewish, German, and African American. Since my dad is mixed, it makes it even more confusing to keep track of what my ethnicity is and what my culture is. My Mother was also born in Boston, Massachusetts, and so was my Father.
I chose to enroll at UMass Dartmouth because there are so many majors to choose from, and it has a wide variety of academic programs and good affordability. UMass Dartmouth offers over 110 undergraduate programs and has a strong sense of community with a variety of clubs and organizations. Out of all the other colleges I applied for, this school was the main one that caught my attention because of its engineering program and what the school has to offer to its students. The reason I pursued this school is to achieve my dream of becoming a solar farmer or an electrical engineer, and help provide my family with money, and give back to people who have helped me, including the church I go to. My goal while at UMass Dartmouth is to go through all of the semesters with straight A’s and B’s and to make sure that I’m on top of all my work and studies.
With the major that I’m doing, I plan on contributing to society with a degree in engineering by helping others with assistance in anything that has to do with engineering, and with the money that comes with this degree, I plan on helping my parents retire and providing as much support to my family as I can. A degree in electrical engineering is foundational to modern society, driving innovation across various sectors. Electrical engineers design, develop, and maintain the systems that power our homes, businesses, and technologies, contributing to society in numerous ways. I also want to give back to my church by helping them with any type of support they need for their church building or any type of financial needs that they need help with.
