My name is Anderson Guerra. I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. My mother was also born in Worcester, she was a high school graduate and a PCA. My father was born in Trinidad, a Caribbean island. He never graduated high school and was a delivery driver for his career. I have four brothers and one sister. My sister and three brothers are older while I have one little brother. Only one of my older siblings graduated high school and none of them decided to go to college. They all have decent careers in other fields. My aunt is the only other person in my family to go to college.

I chose to enroll at Umass Dartmouth because I wanted to make a difference in the education system. I believed that Dartmouth saw something in me and gave me a chance despite what my transcript says. I plan to focus on becoming a better version of myself so I can help other people who struggle in school like I did. I plan to pursue a masters degree and become a high school math teacher. As a student here, I am focused on hitting my academic goals and consistently keeping a B average.

I plan to use my education from Umass Dartmouth to help other communities through teaching. I want to help students who struggle with focusing or finding a reason to continue school. I want to do this because I had these problems until a teacher showed me the benefits of a higher education. I want to impact students in all types of communities and from all different backgrounds. The benefits of this are a better community and hopefully a step towards a better society as well.
