Share the Dream essay by Artem Gukasov
My name is Artem Gukasov, I am 18 years old, and I attend UMass Dartmouth. I was born at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA on April 5, 2007. I have two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. Although we speak Russian and have Russian names, we are actually Armenian. Most Armenians had to flee to Russia back in the 80s and 90s due to the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. That is what my parents had to do, then they decided to move here in the 2000s.
One of the bigger reasons as to why I decided to attend UMass Dartmouth is because of my sister. She is now a junior and said good things about the school, and
because of her, I had already seen most of the college and really liked how it looked. I am a finance major pursuing my bachelors degree in it and will mainly focus on finance oriented classes to learn more about it. My goal is to have a successful career in finance, as I enjoy the field and think it's interesting with many choices to go into.
With the education I get from UMass Dartmouth, I would like to use what I learn not only for a successful career for myself, but also to help out the people around me. By understanding how money works, I would want to use my tools to help my family and friends to make smart financial decisions and help bring them wealth. In the long term, I hope to help my country and any country going through war, as my family has seen it firsthand and knows how terrible it is. Whether it's supporting my family and friends, I hope my education and career can bring me opportunities for not just myself, but for others too.
