My name is Princessca Shanaya jean, my friends and family call me princess. I am a 19-year-old college student who so far been through many challenges and helped shaped her to do better. I come from south Easton Massachusetts where it has shaped me to be a hard-working independent. I live with my two older brother, one younger sister and my mom. I am a Haitian American was born and raised in Boston that has shaped me to be strong. Through the years of living in Boston I was living with my grandmother that still looks up to me.
So far being in college has changed the way I view things, and it has shaped my thinking in many ways. The challenges I have faced my first year had created me to be stronger. I can say in the beginning I was facing some challenges that could’ve potentially put me at risk in my education and career. I was facing some bad habits of procrastinate and time management. After a hard realization that I am not a kid anymore in high school and think, someone is going to save me. So, during my first year it has shaped me to change my ways to become better for the future that I inspire to have.
I chose to enroll in UMass Dartmouth because I had found the education opportunities to be helpful. I learned that it was an inviting place to be in, I felt more connected to people in my school. There’s a lot of students in the school that are people of color. I felt more in tune with the school. I can find myself having a connection with other. I can meet many connections and gain many opportunities. There are tons of events that makes me feels connected with others because its cultural. Through my experience being in the college now program was something I had to get used to. Since it was like a booster for me to build my credit so that I can choose my major next year. What motivated me to stay in school is the motivation of my peers and my mother. They gave hope to keep trying every day. What also keeps me motivated is working hard to achieve my degree in business management and eventually starting my business soon.
My first year of college is different from how I expected it to be when I was in high school, in college it comes with so much independence and responsibilities. My mom isn’t here to constantly remind me to do my homework and wake me up for class when I need to. Being in college taught me that I needed discipline. Since the second month of the semester, I noticed that I needed to change and began to be hard on myself outgrow bad habits procrastination and time management. As a student here at UMass Dartmouth I continue to be hard on myself and being consistent with all my classes.
As a student here at UMass Dartmouth pursuing my degree in business management, I want to use my education to contribute to society to help grow connections with others and to create opportunities not only for myself, but for other people in the community as well. I want other people to also feel encouraged and motivated in the business they would like to pursue. What needs to be changed in the world is for people to gain humanity to help others who feels discouraged or struggles to feel noticed in their career. Perusing in business I want to open a brand, and I feel like helping people that need resources like me can work together.
Altogether, my career in business management will benefit my family and community. My career will allow me to provide knowledge that would help them progress into their business and make smart decisions. My career will allow me to create good businesses that would be good for many communities. My long-term goal is to create business that would create new job opportunities and economic support for local families. As my education and business grows I wish to expand it in communities.
