Kimoni, Kelly

My name is Kelly Kimoni, and I am a first generation college student currently attending the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya and my family moved to the United States in 2010 when I was the young age of three. We moved to America in search of greater opportunities and a brighter future. While growing up, my parents taught me the importance of education and hardworking which are values that shape my path. I come from a decent sized family of 6 including me. My family consists of my two younger sisters Faith and Hope, my little brother Kyrie, and my parents.

I chose to enroll at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth because I believe it offers me the right resources, support, and an outstanding environment to succeed both personally and academically. I am currently aiming to graduate with a degree in either computer science or civil engineering. My goal at UMass Dartmouth is to challenge myself and continue to grow day by day until I graduate. I also plan to participate in some programs that the school has to offer such as intramural sports and clubs. Overall I want to take advantage of my opportunities and pave a way for my siblings to follow so they can pursue their own dreams When I earn my degree, I’ll strive to use my skills to make a positive long lasting impact on the world. Whether I pursue engineering to design infrastructure or computer science to develop software systems or create games, I want to help contribute to projects that would improve people’s lives. I intend to give back to my family and my community that raised me and by doing this I hope to leave a mark on the world.
