News 2017: Professor, student present papers at political science conference

Peltz-Steele and JD/MPP student Lauren Sylvia present papers at regional conference for political science researchers

Professor Peltz-Steele and law student Lauren E. Sylvia both presented papers at the annual conference of the New England Political Science Association in Providence, R.I., in April.  Peltz-Steele presented "The Futility of the FCC Approach to Fleeting Expletives," in which he uses research into the history of censorship to examine the efficacy of content-based communication regulation.  Peltz-Steele also chaired a panel on "New Directions in American Politics Research," which featured cutting-edge work from undergraduate scholars from Bryant University, Connecticut College, and Wesleyan University.

Sylvia meanwhile presented her paper, "Prison Reform for Better Rehabilitation of Prisoners."  The paper takes a multi-disciplinary approach to examine the efficacy of prison as a means to social rehabilitation.  Sylvia is a dual-degree student, simultaneously pursuing the J.D. at UMass Law and a master's degree in public policy at UMass Dartmouth.
