On March 1 and 28, Miss Representation, a Sundance Film Festival award-winning documentary on women in the media will be shown at the UMass Dartmouth Woodland Commons at 5:30 p.m.
On March 7, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the UMass Campus Center and Auditorium Lobby tables set up with information regarding health issues.
Also on March 7, Professor Lisa Maya Knauer will present a talk "From Indigenous Queens' to Community Radio: Representation and self-representation of Maya women in Guatemala" at 4-5:30 p.m. at the Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality located in the Campus Center in Suite 207.
March 8, International Women's Day celebrated with Ms. Noha Assaad's presentation of the "Role of Women in the Egyptian Revolution" followed by the 12th Annual Outstanding Women's Awards at Woodland Commons from 3 to 5p.m.
Also on March 8, UMass Dartmouth Women's History month will join the New Bedford AHA event with a screening and discussion of the film Miss Representation with a consortium of active community local women held at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, at 6 p.m.
March 8, 9, and 10, a UMass multi-cultural cast presents the Vagina Monologues at the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5, $8, $10.
March 9 The Arts and Sciences International film series presents Karen Cries on the Bus, College of Visual and Performing Arts Building, Room 153, at 7:30 p.m. Karen leaves her limy yet successful husband of 10 years, she needs a fresh start. She walks out in Bogeta with no job, no friends, and hardly any money. She takes her first steps towards independence.
The Grand opening of the Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality is March 13 at 4 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. The Keynote speaker is Kevin Jennings, CEO of Be the Change, Inc. Ribbon-cutting reception at the Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality at 5:15 p.m.
March 14, Start Smart workshop held at the Star Store Lecture Hall, Purchase Street, New Bedford, at 5 p.m. A workshop on benchmarking your salary and negotiating to earn what you deserve.
March 15, Hayden Herrera "Frida Kahlo: Her Life and Work." Hayden Herrera wrote a biography on Frida Kahlo and writes for Art in America and the New York Times. The presentation is at the Star Store Lecture Hall at 7 p.m.
March 27, Author and journalist Niomi Wolf will speak on "Engaging Democracy: How Citizen Uprisings will Reshape America", 2 p.m., UMass Woodland Commons.
On March 30, The Arts and Sciences International Film series presents Campfire, at the College of Visual and Performing Arts building, Room 153, at 7:30 p.m. A widowed mother of two teenage daughters wants to join a new settlement in the West bank. The settlement's acceptance committee won't approve her unless they can demonstrate that she and her daughters can meet the group's religious and ideological standards, a daunting task.
