UMass Dartmouth's Advanced Technology & Manufacturing Center (ATMC) Welcomes O'Neill Power Systems (O'Neill) as a New Addition to its Center
UMass Dartmouth's Advanced Technology & Manufacturing Center (ATMC) welcomes O'Neill Power Systems (O'Neill) as a new addition to its Center this month. ATMC provides infrastructure for emerging companies, such as O'Neill, as they grow and develop into the future technology and manufacturing leaders regionally, nationally, and internationally.
"O'Neil is a great addition to the ATMC. We are excited to provide them access to state-of-the-art facilities, university resources, and technical expertise to enhance its competitive position within its industry," said Paul Vigeant, Director of ATMC. "Just last week, the CBS 60 Minutes news program did a feature about how unmanned aerial vehicles would revolutionize how Amazon.com delivers your purchases in the near future. O'Neil is on the cutting edge of that exciting scientific revolution."
O'Neill develops innovative lightweight unmanned aerial vehicle ("UAV") helicopter power systems that increase safety, performance, fuel efficiency and reliability. Their technology is patented and received an award as one of the Top 10 inventions in 2012 by the Popular Science magazine.
"Our innovative NorEaster technology will satisfy the unmet lightweight UAV power system needs for the defense, agriculture, and other civilian markets," said Jim O'Neill, Founder and President of O'Neill Power Systems. "An important part of building toward that future will be the growth and innovation we can achieve utilizing the resources available to us at ATMC."
Last month, Boston Engineering announced the opening of an office at ATMC to develop projects emphasizing maritime activities, such as its ground-breaking technology with unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).
Eleven companies in clean energy, marine technology, biotechnology and life sciences, and the software industry are currently occupying space at ATMC. ATMC has fifteen successful graduate companies, 80% of which stayed in Massachusetts to help grow the local economy. The center experienced combined annual sales of over $50 million in 2013 and historically its companies have generated over 200 jobs.
The Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center (ATMC) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth provides advanced technology and manufacturing solutions, through industry and university partnerships, to meet current and future business needs.
