Inaugural Induction of Alpha Eta Alpha to Take Place Tuesday, October 1

Over 40 UMass Dartmouth undergraduate and graduate students will be part of the inaugural induction of the Alpha Eta Alpha chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society this Tuesday, October 1 at 4:30 p.m. in the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium (285 Westport Road, North Dartmouth, MA). The International Teacher Educator Honor Society at UMass Dartmouth is one of only a few of its kind and is only the second honor society chapter within the University of Massachusetts system.

"The induction of our future educators will be a historic day for the Department of Teaching and Learning and our entire UMass Dartmouth community," said UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman. "This chapter is the first of many that will foster growth, excellence, and opportunity for those on the path to teaching."

Dr. Sonia Nieto, Kappa Delta Pi Laureate Representative, Professor Emerita of Language, Literacy, and Culture in the School of Education at UMass Amherst will officiate this historic charter chapter and will give a lecture on her new book Finding Joy in Teaching Students of Diverse Backgrounds: Culturally Responsive and Socially Just Practices in U.S. Classrooms. Undergraduates must attain a 3.2 GPA and graduate students a 3.5 GPA for consideration into the honor society.
