Deans Adrian Tio of New Bedford and Steven Lohrenz of Marion, lecturer Peter Geisser of Cranston, RI, honored
Three UMass Dartmouth leaders and faculty members have recently been elected to national leadership positions in their respective fields, highlighting the high regard in which they are held by their peers.
Dean of the School of Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) Dr. Steven Lohrenz has been made At-Large Councillor with The Oceanography Society, which was founded in 1988 to disseminate knowledge of oceanography and its application through research and education and to promote communication among oceanographers.
Last year, Dean Lohrenz was also elected to the Board of Trustees of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, which brings together public and private partners and the scientific community to shape national and international oceans policy.
Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts Adrian Tio has been reappointed to the Commission on Accreditation of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design for one year to complete a vacant term. The members of the Commission, elected from the membership, meet every six months to review institutions for membership and accreditation in the US and Canada as well as international programs in the visual arts in Europe.
Tio previously served two consecutive 3-year terms on the Commission from 2003-09.
Lecturer Peter Geisser has been elected as Vice-President for the Eastern Region of the National Art Education Association, the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts educators from the elementary to graduate level.
Geisser, who has worked as an art educator at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Rhode Island School of Design's Continuing Education, as well as CVPA, is the former President of the Rhode Island Art Education Association.
