Summer Program Activities

The 2014 Summer Program in Portuguese at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is pleased to invite you to events and activities connected with the program. From a Fado concert to a film series, there will be a lot going on in July! The events are free and open to the public, so join us for any or all of them! 

·         Monday, 7/14: Fado concert by Rodrigo Costa Félix, Marta Pereira da Costa and Pedro Pinhal. Room: CVPA 104 (parking lots 7, 8). 6 pm. 
Rodrigo Costa Félix's second CD, Fados de Amor (Fados of Love), was awarded "Best CD of the Year" by Portugal's prestigious Amália Rodrigues Foundation. Marta Pereira da Costa is a virtuoso of the Portuguese guitar (an instrument overwhelming played professionally only by males) and Pedro Pinhal is a veteran of the classical guitar. 

·         Tuesday, 7/15: Fado workshop, Rodrigo Costa Félix. Room: DION 105 (parking lots 1, 17). 1 pm. 

·         Wednesday, 7/16: Film: Capitães de Abril (April captains) -- Portugal. Room: Library 314 (parking lot 13). 1:30 pm. 

·         Tuesday, 7/22: Capoeira workshop, Gregory Dillon, RISD. Room: DION 105 (parking lots 1, 17). 7 pm. 

·         Wednesday, 7/23: Film: Na cidade vazia (Hollow city) -- Angola. Room: Library 314 (parking lot 13). 1:30 pm. 

·         Monday, 7/28: Reception with António Simões: CCB 115 (parking lot 13). 3 pm. 
Simões played soccer for Benfica and several US teams. He also played 46 matches with the Portuguese national team. 

·         Tuesday, 7/29:  Brazilian music workshop, Prof. Dário Borim, host of the weekly radio show Brazilliance. Room: Library 314 (parking lot 13). 1 pm. 

·         Wednesday, 7/30: Film: O jardim do outro homem (Another man's garden) -- Mozambique. Room: Library 314 (parking lot 13). 1:30 pm.
