UMASS DARTMOUTH POLICE SEEKING ASSISTANCE WITH INVESTIGATION
The investigation into a stabbing that occurred at the Cedar Dell South housing complex early this morning is ongoing. The UMass Dartmouth Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking the assistance of the campus community in this investigation. Anyone who may have information concerning this crime should contact DPS immediately at 508.999.9191, use the silent witness line at 508.999.8477, or visit umassd.edu/publicsafety/silentwitnesstipline.
According the DPS, police were dispersing a disturbance outside the Cedar Dell South apartments at approximately 3:30 a.m. when they learned the male victim had been stabbed. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and has been admitted. The suspect was described as a light skinned Hispanic or black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a bushy pony tail and wearing a black hoodie.
The initial investigation suggests this is an isolated incident. It is uncertain at this time whether the victim and suspect were familiar with each other prior to the incident.

In accordance with the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community that a male student was stabbed this morning at about 3:30 am at Cedar Dell South.
Police were dispersing a disturbance outside apartments 561-568 when they learned the victim had been stabbed and immediately requested an ambulance. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and has been admitted. The victim describes the suspect as a light skinned Hispanic or black male, approximately 6 feet in height with a bushy pony tail and wearing a black hoodie.
Preliminary investigation suggests this is an isolated incident. No further description, direction of travel of the assailant, or any vehicle is identified. DPS is requesting assistance in locating any witnesses to this incident.
Community members are reminded to call police immediately should they witness a crime or become victimized. We also strongly encourage avoiding situations that accompany potential for a physical violence and to report disturbances immediately.
