University launches strategic plan with focus on transformative educational experience of students, impactful research, K-12 engagement, entrepreneurship, public service, and community partnerships
Today UMass Dartmouth launched UMassDTransform2020, the University's new strategic plan that will position the University for transformation, growth, and prosperity. UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman outlined the plan to the University communuty during the 2014 Convocation Breakfast.
"Today we publicly launch UMassDTransform2020, with the aspiration that UMass Dartmouth will be recognized and embraced as a national research university -- by our peers, by the Commonwealth, by the nation, and by all who have a stake in the economic, cultural and social prosperity of our community," said Chancellor Grossman. "UMass Dartmouth is the only research university in Massachusetts located south of Boston. We are the hub of innovation for an entire region. We have an obligation to be the best we can be, and that means achieving formal Doctoral Research University status. Our region needs and deserves a DRU."
UMassDTransform2020 charts the course of UMass Dartmouth's future through four key strategic actions: a focus on the transformative educational experience of students as our highest priority, embracing change that fosters innovative and enriched learning, dynamic and impactful research; and the University continue to enhance reciprocal and enduring partnerships with our community, engaging a diverse community of highly qualified and committed faculty, students, and staff to elicit the best results from the University's resources and infrastructure, and fomenting growth in the areas of environment, health, justices, and arts and culture.
UMass Dartmouth will achieve these goals through emboldening the values of excellence, diversity, transparency, student-centeredness, accountability, innovation, engagement, collaboration, collegiality, and safety, recognizing that these principles are essential to fulfill the University's mission and assuring the success of students, faculty, staff and the broader community. These values are demonstrated in priorities and actions. UMass Dartmouth's campus is a safe, collaborative, and collegial environment for all people to exchange ideas, generate innovation, and build a sustainable future. We foster a trusting and engaged community that places the students at the heart of our institution.
