UMass Dartmouth College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) is pleased to announce its successful ten-year re-accreditation and renewal of membership in the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) for its undergraduate and graduate programs in art and design. The next comprehensive review will occur in the 2024-2025 Academic Year.

NASAD has certified the following undergraduate programs:

  • Certificate-I to 2 years: Artisanry; Fine Arts (Undergraduate).
  • Bachelor of Arts-4 years: Art History.
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts-4 years: Art Education; Artisanry (Ceramics, Jewelry/Metals, Textile Design/Fiber Arts); Painting/2-D Studies; Sculpture/3-D Studies; Visual Design (Digital Media, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography).

NASAD has certified the following graduate programs:

  • Master of Art Education-2 years: Art Education.
  • Master of Fine Arts-2 years: Fine Arts (Drawing).
  • Master of Fine Arts-2 to 3 years: Artisanry (Ceramics, Fibers, Furniture Design, Jewelry/Metals); Fine Arts (Painting, Printmaking? Sculpture); Visual Design (Digital Media, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Typography).

The Commission also voted to grant final approval for listing the following:

  • Certificate-I to 2 years: Artisanry, Fine Arts (Undergraduate)
  • Master of Fine Arts-2 years: Fine Arts (Drawing)

This renewed membership involved a two-year accreditation process that included an extensive self-study by the College, a NASAD team visit in 2015, and a Visiting Team report that highlighted the many strengths of CVPA’s academic programs and administration. The preparation and process was truly a team effort requiring assistance from faculty, staff, and students. The NASAD reviewers had many laudatory comments about CVPA faculty, students and curriculum, the College’s growing research portfolio, safety protocol, facilities, the impressive display of student work during the site visit, and more.

Founded in 1944, NASAD, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. It is comprised of schools, colleges, and universities across the United States, with some 323 accredited institutional members. NASAD is recognized by the United States Department of Education as the agency responsible for the accreditation of all art and design curricula.
