"The Uncommon Object" displays works of 10 UMass Dartmouth alumni at University Art Gallery in New Bedford

UMass Dartmouth's College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) presents "The Uncommon Object" exhibition at the University Art Gallery located at UMass Dartmouth's Star Store Campus in New Bedford. The group exhibition showcases the works of 10 alumni of the CVPA's Ceramic's program, who worked jointly with invited accompanying artists. The accompanying artists were invited based on their contrary styles to the alumni he or she was paired with. The pairings reveal an unusual logic - a connection in uncommon objects.

The exhibition will be on display February 12-March 28 with an exhibition reception at the gallery, at 6 p.m., on March 26, 2015. The exhibition is part of the programming for the 49th annual National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference in Providence, RI which has earned a reputation worldwide as a premier event for ceramic art, drawing thousands of participants each year.

The works of the following alumni and accompanying artists are showcased at the exhibition:

David Bogus & Gail Kendall
Josephine Burr & Hannah Burr
Angela Cunningham & Daniel Molyneux
Stephen Grimmer & Ron Meyers
Martha Grover & Giselle Hicks
David Katz & Adams Puryear
Andrea Marquis & Paul Swenbeck
John Oles & Mary Louise Carter
Mallory Wetherell & Richard Notkin
Rhonda Willers & Xanthe Isbister

The exhibition was conceived by Artisanry professors Rebecca Hutchinson and Jim Lawton with the notion that the counterpoints of artists are not only interesting but offer insight into the depth of who they are as artists.

The University Art Gallery is located at UMass Dartmouth's Star Store Campus in New Bedford (715 Purchase Street). The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on major holidays. All events are free and open to the public.
