The largest software companies generate hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue annually. Growth of the software industry is strong and continues to contribute to the creation of many highly skilled jobs, in sectors such as telecommunications services, security tools and systems, information technology (IT) consulting and staffing, and e-business applications and services. Software-related job growth in the healthcare sector is also thriving.

In addition to the software industry’s valuable contributions to national and global economic growth, many national laboratories and government organizations such as the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Space and Aeronautics Administration (NASA), and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), are all highly dependent on mission and life critical software to ensure national security and the safety of human operators and communities in which these software enabled systems reside.

Present collaborators include the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
