Former UnitedHealthcare Specialty Benefits CEO Diane Desmarais Souza '79 to address business students; U.S. Senator Edward Markey to offer address at combined ceremony

UMass Dartmouth's Commencement ceremony for the Charlton College of Business and the multi-college combined ceremony of the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, College of Visual & Performing Arts, and School for Marine Science & Technology will take place today at the University's Vietnam Veterans Peace Memorial Amphitheater. The undergraduate and graduate Commencement for the Charlton College of Business occurs at 10:00 am. The undergraduate and graduate Commencement for the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, College of Visual & Performing Arts, and School of Marine Science & Technology occurs at 2:30 pm. 

Former UnitedHealthcare Specialty Benefits CEO and UMass Dartmouth Alumna Diane Desmarais Souza '79 will receive an honorary degree and deliver the keynote address at UMass Dartmouth's Charlton College of Business Commencement ceremony. 

United States Senator Edward J. Markey, a consumer champion and national leader on energy, environmental protection and telecommunications policy, will receive the Chancellor's Medal and deliver the keynote address at the Commencement exercises for graduates of the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, College of Visual & Performing Arts, and School of Marine Science & Technology. 

New Bedford Festival Theatre Executive Producer Armand Marchand and Artistic Director George Charbonneau will be presented with Chancellor's Medals at the multi-college Commencement ceremony in recognition of the contributions to the cultural landscape of the region. 

Sapna Jawid Piracha, MBA '15 will deliver the student address at the Charlton College of Business ceremony. Engineering student Tejendra Patel '15 will deliver the student address at the combined ceremony. 

Reserved parking for media members is available in lot 13 on the main campus. Media credentials, especially for photographers, must be visible throughout coverage of any of the four ceremonies. Each Commencement ceremony can be watched live via umassd.edu/commencement/watchonline. UMass Dartmouth's WUMD FM 89.3 will also have live coverage of Commencement.
