"Globalization: The Process and Its Domestic Impact," is the theme of an upcoming lecture series sponsored by the Center for Policy Analysis at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Globalization: The Process and Its Domestic Impact, is the theme of an upcoming lecture series sponsored by the Center for Policy Analysis at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. 

Each session, open to the general public at no charge, runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Library Browsing Area. Parking is available in lot 13. The First Annual Policy Studies Lecture Series will provide participants with an opportunity to hear from some of the world’s leading experts on issues related to the policy and process of globalization and its domestic impact in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere. The lectures will last for approximately 40 minutes with additional time for questions and discussion from the audience. 

The series kicks off on Thursday, February 21, with Dr. Manfred Steger’s presentation, Globalism and its Central Claims. The author of five books, including Globalism: The New Market Ideology, Steger is associate professor of politics & government at Ilinois State University and an affiliate faculty member at the University of Hawaii’s Globalization Research Center. 

Jeffrey Schott, a senior fellow at the Institute for International Economics in Washington D.C., will present Prospects for Free Trade in the Americas, on Thursday, March 14. Schott was formerly an official of the United States Treasury Department and a member of the delegation that negotiated the GATT Subsidies Code in the Tokyo Round (1973-1979) of Multilateral Trade Negotiations. He is the author of 19 books including Prospects for Free Trade in the Americas. 

On Thursday, April 18, Dr. Peter Maassen will lead The EU and Higher Education Policy: From National to Transnational Higher Education. Maassen is professor of education at the University of Oslo and senior fellow at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies at the University of Twente, The Netherlands. An expert on the economic role and effects of globalization on higher education, he has served as a consultant on the restructuring of higher education systems in Western and Eastern Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and South Africa.
