News 2016: Dr. Kenneth Brink joins the School for Marine Science and Technology as adjunct faculty member

Accomplished scholar and physical oceanography will contribute his expertise to UMass Dartmouth's SMAST

UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) welcomes physical oceanographer Dr. Kenneth Brink as a member of the adjunct faculty. Brink, a Senior Scientist Emeritus of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, previously held the position there as director of the Coastal Ocean Institute and Rinehard Coastal Center from 2000-2004. He is an elected Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Meteorological Society.

In addition to a long list of scholarly contributions, Brink also served as chair of the Ocean Studies Board and president of the Oceanography Society, as well as numerous advisory, review and editorial positions, including as a member of the SMAST/CMAST External Board of Advisors from 1998-2004. 

Brink’s research output consist of the study of shelf dynamics, including coastal trapped waves, coastal upwelling, and the coupling between shelf and ocean circulation as well as dynamics of wind-driven ocean currents on Georges Banks, Northwest Australia, and the Arabian Sea. He is a graduate of Cornell and Yale Universities.
