Villanova law professor Diane Penneys Edelman speaks to faculty and students at UMass Law on 'internationalisation' of U.S. legal education

Diane Penneys Edelman addressed faculty and students at UMass Law today about "internationalisation" in U.S. legal education. Edelman is director of international programs and professor of law at the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Specifically Professor Edelman explained the increasing essentiality of international, comparative, and foreign law to prepare U.S. law students to practice in the age of globalization. She previewed an article forthcoming in an American Bar Association (ABA) publication, to which UMass Law Professor Richard Peltz-Steele also contributed, detailing the increasing number of course offerings in international and comparative law in U.S. law schools. Professor Edelman also spoke about opportunities for law schools to develop curriculum, alumni relations, and career services through international initiatives.
Professor Edelman serves as co-chair of the International Legal Education and Specialist Certification Committee of the ABA Section on International Law. Her visit to UMass was sponsored by the Law Faculty Development Committee. In addition to faculty, students invited to the presentation included officers of the International Law Students Association; the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition team, advised by Professor Frances Rudko; and students in Comparative Law, a seminar taught by Professor Peltz-Steele and Misty Peltz-Steele, assistant dean of the law library.
