UMass Dartmouth has announced that Dr. Shannon Finning has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, effective July 2, 2018. Dr. Finning currently serves as Vice President for Student Affairs at Springfield College.

As vice chancellor, Dr. Finning will be responsible for the full portfolio of student services, along with divisional strategic planning, assessment and staff development. This is a critical position as the university works to transform UMass Dartmouth to meet the 21st century needs of students, and collectively advance the university’s value proposition as a Tier 1 national research university that provides a private college educational experience and a public university value.

Dr. Finning’s two decades of experience, ranging from direct service to division leadership, will be immensely valuable as the institution continuously improves the UMassD student experience from residential life to health, career services, and to student government. Prior to joining Springfield College, Dr. Finning served as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Clemson University and as Dean of Student Affairs at Babson College. Dr. Finning earned her PhD in Educational Leadership at Clemson University where her dissertation focused on the sophomore year experience.

Dr. Finning will replace Dr. David Milstone, who is retiring after 12 years of service to the university and 39 years in the student affairs field.
