Professor Scharf Begins Fellowship with the Supreme Judicial Court’s Access to Justice Commission and the Lawyers Clearinghouse

Professor Irene Scharf began her term as an Access to Justice Fellow with the Lawyers Clearinghouse to support volunteer lawyers working with immigrants

UMass Law Director of the Immigration Litigation Clinic Irene Scharf began her term as a Fellow with the Supreme Judicial Court Access to Justice Commission and the Lawyers Clearinghouse. During the fellowship, Professor Scharf’s project is working with the “ODD HOC” group of lawyers in the South Coast area who, while not necessarily experienced immigration lawyers, have volunteered their time (often in retirement) to put their legal experience to work helping immigrants with discrete legal needs. The project will focus on coordinating and maximizing assistance with a local nonprofit community organization as well as facilitating the connections between those in need with lawyers who can help them.
