The 2021 annual report of the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement features multiple contributions from the CVPA community. The 2020-2021 Faculty Fellow cohort included four CVPA faculty: Jan Fairbairn, Stephanie McGoldrick, and Shawn Town from Art & Design, and Ross Schlemmer from Art Education, Art History & Media Studies. The seventh annual Leduc Center Engaged Scholarship Symposium featured two CVPA faculty member presentations: Rose Mary Botti Salitsky on “Promoting Diversity in Design” and Rebecca Uchill on “Processing Place Through Partnerships and Exhibitions.”

The report also highlighted a collaboration with Sculpture professor Stacy Latt Savage (Art & Design) and the Sculpture Club. In support of the Get out the Vote campaign, CVPA Sculpture worked with CVPA technician Shingo Furukawa to cut large sculptural letters on the CNC router that participating clubs and organizations painted and displayed around campus to encourage voter participation.

In addition, Professor Pamela Karimi’s course “Art & Politics in the Middle East” was featured in a “Leduc Center Spotlight” celebrating the exhibition of contemporary Iranian art that the course organized. Professor Ronald Sherwin was celebrated as a Faculty Fellow working with Bridgewater State University on choral music collaborative initiatives. And Tracey Cockrell, CVPA Artist in Residence, was featured in the report on “Earth Month,” celebrating the SouthCoast Earth Month Coalition and students who worked with Cockerell on a whale made entirely of recycled plastic.

"We love working with the CVPA students, faculty and staff to share their impressive skills and talents with the community in a meaningful way," said Deirdre Healy, Director of Community Service and Partnerships for the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement.

Congratulations to all CVPA faculty, students, and staff for their substantial contributions to community engaged efforts!
