UMass Dartmouth College of Visual And Performing Arts Business of Art Series begins Feb 23
The lectures are at the UMass Dartmouth College Visual and Performing Arts Star Store Campus, 715 Purchase Street, New Bedford, MA, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. The series is open to artists, designers, students, faculty, and interested parties who wish to obtain knowledge and learn techniques to navigate their career in the world of art. All lectures are free of charge and open to the public.
UMass Dartmouth College Visual and Performing Arts series entitled, The Business of Art: Fifteen Minutes of Fame and Decades of Success, is part of the Provost Department Seminar Series. Guest speakers are from regional art and cultural organizations, museums, galleries, art consultant firms, and commercial enterprises.
The free seminar series begins February 23 and continues through April 27. Listed below are the names of the first three featured seminars and presenters.
Michelle Bowers, UMass Dartmouth Visual Design Professor will present the first lecture in the series Art Marketing and the Web on February 23. Ms. Bowers is an educator, artist and designer whose multi-disciplinary work includes typography, illustration, photography and design for arts, academic and non-profit organizations. She has studied design at Cranbrook Academy of Art and the University of Arizona. Ms. Bowers work is featured in numerous exhibitions and publications and recognized by the AIGA, TDC, SOTA, UCDA, HOW, Adobe and STEP Inside Design.
On March 2, Wyona Lynch-McWhite, Executive Director, Fuller Craft Museum, will present, A World of Art Shows and Exhibitions and discuss the process and expectation of juried art exhibitions from the point of view of the juror. Lynch-McWhite joined the Fuller Craft Museum as Executive Director in 2008. Prior to her tenure with Fuller she was director and chief curator of the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum in Roanoke, Virginia. She began her career at the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Art Institute of Chicago and serves on many professional museum committees including, American Association of Museums National Program Committee, and the College Art Association Museum Committee. Lynch-McWhite is grant reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
On March 9, Lauren J. Winsor, Public Art Coordinated, from the New England Foundation for the Arts will present Grants and Foundations. Ms. Winsor will introduce the grant world and provide practical guidance in the navigation of arts foundations. Ms. Winsor serves as public art coordinator and works closely with artists and art organizations in the development of grant applications and donor solicitations.
