Dartmouth native and two New Bedford natives join University's Department of Public Safety
The UMass Dartmouth Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce that three new police officers were sworn in on January 11, 2012 by Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety Emil Fioravanti. These three new officers graduated from the 53rd Plymouth Municipal Police Officer Class on December 2, 2011 and join 22 other sworn officers at the Department.
"I am proud to welcome these three new officers to the Department of Public Safety," said Chief Fioravanti. "Through their training, they've proven that they have the desire, the skill, and the professionalism to serve and protect more than 10,000 students, staff and faculty at UMass Dartmouth."
Our new officers are:
Officer Tye Andrade. Born and raised in Dartmouth, Officer Andrade is the son of a Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant and Plymouth County Parole Officer and is a 2009 graduate of UMass Dartmouth. Officer Andrade credits his upbringing in a law enforcement household to keeping him grounded and disciplined. Prior to joining the UMass Dartmouth Police Department, Officer Andrade was employed as a Corrections Officer with the Bristol County Sheriff's Office. Officer Andrade wants to provide the same opportunities of living in an atmosphere free of violence and unnecessary distraction that he experienced as a student to the current and future students of UMass Dartmouth.
Officer Michael Reynolds. Born and raised in New Bedford, Officer Reynolds cites his great- grandfather as a role model and credits him for showing him the meaning of a hard work ethic and good manners. Officer Reynolds is a graduate of Western New England College, where he received a degree in Criminal Justice and completed an internship with the Springfield Department of Youth Services. Most recently, Officer Reynolds was employed as a Corrections Officer with the Bristol County Sheriff's Office.
Officer Jesse Walker III. Born and raised in New Bedford, Officer Walker is a criminal justice graduate of Bridgewater State University. Much of Officer Walker's schooling was centered on his goal of one day becoming a police officer, and he participated in a variety of different internships that ranged from the courts to university policing to the Massachusetts State Police. Officer Walker is excited and happy to be fulfilling his dream of becoming a police officer.
