Blue & Gold Weekend celebrates UMassD pride

Students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to join the festivities on October 8 and 9

UMassD Blue and Gold Weekend

Blue & Gold Weekend is coming to UMass Dartmouth with two days of events that students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff won’t want to miss. On October 8 and 9, the entire UMassD community will celebrate Corsair pride all weekend, culminating with UMassD football vs. Mass. Maritime on Saturday afternoon.

The celebration kicks off Friday morning with UMassD Engage, a morning of service volunteering at local community organizations and on campus. Presented in collaboration with the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement, volunteers will lend a hand at Gifts to Give, NAACP, Forever Paws Animal Shelter, Active Minds, and participate in on campus clean ups.

Blue & Gold Weekend also features the 33rd Annual Corsair Athletics Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are: Kevin Cutler '16, track and field; Trod Harold Jr. '10, football; Thomas Monahan '20, men's tennis; Colleen Moriarty '13, women's basketball; Mike Owens '12, ice hockey; and the 1988 softball team. The fun continues for students Friday evening when the amphitheater field will be transformed into a huge outdoor dance party at the Back2Life concert with DJs, performers, and a spectacular light show.

On Saturday, October 9, UMassD will welcome students’ families and alumni at the signature event, the Blue & Gold Festival, from 11:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on the quad. The huge outdoor festival features student performances, Arnie and his local mascot friends, axe throwing, a bouncy house, petting zoo with pony rides, and more! The festival is free to attend, with food and beverage available for purchase.

Last year’s 50th anniversary of the Center for Women, Gender, & Sexuality was cancelled due to COVID, but the celebration is back on at a drag brunch on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Local performers Complete Destruction (a member of the class of 2014) and Miss Jacqueline DiMera will entertain the crowd. Proceeds will support CWGS.

The weekend wraps up with an exciting football game between the Corsairs and Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 2:30 p.m. The Corsair Beer Garden outside Cressy Field is the perfect spot to watch the action and play lawn games.
