Assistant Professor Melissa Cronin (Fisheries Oceanography) published "Evidence for a fisher-designed solution to manta and devil ray bycatch in tuna fisheries" in Conservation Biology. The piece discusses an innovative sorting grid device that enables the rapid and safe release of large manta and devil rays. The paper was also featured in a Science News article.

Professor Steve Cadrin (Fisheries Oceanography) received $419,462 from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center for "Tracking and Modelling the Behavior and Position of Fishing Vessels and their Towed Gears in Wind Energy Areas". The project, in partnership with the New Bedford Port Authority, will examine how commercial fishing vessels and gear operate within and around offshore wind energy areas to understand potential impacts.
Assistant Teaching Professor Natalie Pattillo (English & Communication) received a grant from the LEF Moving Image Fund for the documentary project "Writing for My Mother". The feature-length documentary examines the declining literacy rates in the United States through the lens of Pattillo's mother, who faces literacy challenges.
For the second time in three years, UMass Dartmouth's Student-Managed Investment Fund claimed first place in the annual UMass System investment competition, earning top honors for 2025 with a 20.44% return on its portfolio. The fund's performance surpassed the benchmark S&P 500's 15.16% return, as well as the results of undergraduate and graduate teams from UMass Amherst, Boston, and Lowell.
