UMass Dartmouth's Pre-Med/Pre-Health Advisory Program helps you develop the knowledge and skills necessary for future success in medical and health-related careers.

There is no specific pre-med/pre-health major at UMass Dartmouth. You can choose a major that interests you and that you will enjoy. Our program's advisors will assist you in choosing the science and math courses that will prepare you for admission to medical school and health-related professional programs.

Pre-Med/Pre-Health Professions Certificate

UMass Dartmouth also offers a Pre-Med/Pre-Health Professions Certificate, which is designed for the student who has already completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution but needs to complete the professional program undergraduate requirements before applying to a pre-med or allied health program.

This is a 4-semester course of study. Many certificate students attend on a part-time basis.

Yes, you can earn a pre-health professions certificate instead of joining the advising program. This certificate is for students who have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution, but need to complete the professional program undergraduate requirements before applying to a medical or health program. This is a four-semester course of study

Note that international students are not eligible for the certificate program.

Common majors include medical laboratory science, nursing, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, psychology, and health & society, but students in any major are welcome to participate in the program.

The UMass Chan Medical School Baccalaureate MD (BaccMD) Pathway Program is a multiphase program that provides selected students from the UMass undergraduate campuses with the opportunity of provisional acceptance into T.H. Chan School of Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School. Students who are from racial or ethnic groups underrepresented in medicine nationally and in Massachusetts, who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, or are First Generation College graduates are eligible to apply to the BaccMD Program.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) publishes the Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR), and schools list their requirements on their admission portals. Students should research schools and then make a chart of the schools, admissions requirements, and course prerequisites.
