I’m from Providence, Rhode Island, but I currently live in Fall River with my dad and stepmom. I grew up in a close family with three siblings: an older sister, a younger brother, and a younger sister. I attended Classical High School in Providence, where I learned the importance of hard work and discipline. Those lessons have stayed with me in college.

My family means a lot to me. I’m proud to be the first person on my mom’s side to go to college, and my dad was the first on his side too. My stepmom also attended college. Education has become a key part of our household and motivates me to keep pushing forward. Their support and examples have inspired me to make the most of every opportunity I have.

At first, I didn't want to attend Umass, but my parents kept nagging me and telling me that they thought that it was the best decision for me. I went on one visit in January for a football visit and didn't really get the full experience so I didn't really like Umass. I went on a few other visits and liked them a little better until I went to accepted students day and from that day I decided that I wanted to go to Umass. I liked the vibe and energy on campus, the diversity and just how cheap Umass was compared to other schools. UMass has been great so far and I've recently chosen that I want to major in the business of marketing.

I want to use what I learn to help my community and my family. For me, school isn't just about getting a piece of paper; it's about finding a way to do good. I want to take what I know and use it to assist other folks, especially those who didn’t get the same breaks I did.

Since I’m one of the first in my family to go to school, I want to show my younger siblings what's up. I want them to realize that if you work hard and get an education, lots of doors can open. Later on, I hope I can give back to my community by guiding young people. I could do this by being a mentor, pitching in as a volunteer, or just being someone they can look up to.
