Feature Stories 2018: Robin Kish: freelancer and travel writer

Robin Kish is a freelance writer specializing in short fiction and essays, although she has recently narrowed her focus to travel narrative. Her recent publications chronicle her adventures abroad, hiking Japan's ancient pilgrimage trails.

 

“A Lone Pilgrim on the Kumano Kodo”, which will appear online at The Expeditioner this winter, explores the intersection between spirituality, history, and loneliness experienced by travelers on a multi-day journey.

 

Kumano was Robin's second trek through Japan. Her article, “Trying – and Failing – on Japan's Shikoku 88” appeared online at GoNomad in April.

 

Robin received her B.A in English and History from Oberlin College and her M.F.A in Creative Writing from Indiana University in 2006. Her work has appeared in various literary journals including Hayden's Ferry Review, The Florida Review, and Cutthroat. She has been with the FYE Program at UMD since 2007.
