News 2018: Moot Court Team wins Best Brief at Regional Competition

The UMass Law National Moot Court Team won the Best Brief Award for the Region.

The UMass Law National Moot Court Team competed at the regional competition against Boston University, Boston College, Suffolk, Western New England, Vermont, Syracuse, Roger Williams, and Quinnipiac.

The team won the Best Brief Award for the region and advanced to the semi-final round of the top 4 teams. They lost by less than 2 points, out of 100, to Boston University, the team that won the regionals.

Kerina Silva, JD candidate '19; Flannery Rogers, JD candidate '20; and Mary Brigh Lavery, JD/MPP candidate '20 represented UMass Law, arguing in front of two Rhode Island state court judges.

The prestigious National Moot Court Competition is the oldest appellate advocacy competition in the country and is sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the City of New York Bar Association.

The team was coached by Professor Julie Baker. "I could not be more proud of how well our students did and how well they represented UMass Law," she said.
