My name is Lawrence Awortwi-Mensah. I am currently a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I come from a four-person home back in Worcester. Living with my mother and father, as well as my twin sister. My family and I are Ghanians. My mother and father immigrated here for a better life before my twin and I were born. I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts went to school nearby, at home, called Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School. The school was from Kindergarten to the 12th grade. Which was there for my whole high school career. The school was predominantly black and especially Ghanaian, so fitting in was not hard nor a problem.

The reason I chose to enroll in UMass Dartmouth was that I saw it as a good fit for me. Just the right-sized campus, a Decent amount of people, including diversity, as well as the opportunities it presented for students. I also wanted to get a chance to be away from home but not unreachable, and UMass Dartmouth was a good distance. I had the chance to visit a student during their freshman year and see what the place looked like, and it was eye-catching. The new freshmen buildings, the grove, and many other things on campus around the residential area. I was then fortunate to arrive for an orientation of my own, and that's when I knew I wanted to attend UMass Dartmouth.

Here at UMass Dartmouth, I want to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering. With a degree in that, I plan to follow my dream of becoming an MRI technologist. The reason I chose this path is that I wanted to be involved with Engineering as well as the medical field, and studying Biomedical Engineering was a suitable fit for me. While growing up, I had a couple of MRIs of my own, so I already got the Idea of what the process looks like. Here at UMass Dartmouth, I plan to do the things I need to do. I really want to overcome the difficulty of procrastination because I am aware that the work piles up in college way more than it already did in high school. As of now, I am in the college program, which knocks me off track of achieving my goals, but also puts me on track. I hope to succeed in college now to be able to achieve my goals later on and as soon as possible. I will focus on completing work early, ahead of time, while in the course of making new everlasting friends. It is said that, easier said than done.

Hopefully, when said and done with my education, I plan to help those who need Magnetic Resonance Imaging. I plan on servicing those patients with those resources properly. As for my family, I plan on giving back. With the pay I hope to receive, I hope I can give back to them for all they've done for me. The sacrifices they made for me to get here. I want to end up giving it back to them and things of that nature.
