Jamie Losanno: Marketing internship at Dell

After attending a UMassD career fair, Jamie Losanno '17 interned at Dell/EMC.

Transferring to UMass Dartmouth

I transferred to UMass Dartmouth for its education, as well as the people. The education here is prestigious, and the people who’ve helped me along the way have been incredible. I wouldn’t be where I am today without this school or the people I’ve met.

Passionate about marketing

I became interested in business when I started working at Market Basket as a bagger. As I got promoted, I was lucky enough to see what goes on behind the scenes. This led to me reading more business news and realizing that marketing is the field I’m passionate about.

As a whole, marketing is the most essential part of a business. I chose to major in it to understand the very foundation of a business.

My plan after graduation is to secure a full-time sales position with a large technology firm and eventually become a sales representative.

Internship at Dell/EMC

I went to many of the career fairs that UMassD offers. I talked to people from Dell/EMC and later contacted them about an internship.

I worked at Dell's global headquarters in Hopkinton, MA. I focused a lot on improving communication for my team, as well as product management/marketing. I networked with some great people.

My internship helped me figure out career paths I’d like to try, and during interviews I can discuss the important projects I worked on that had an impact on my team.

Even if we don’t realize it, the most important skill we learn in college is time management. In the corporate setting, there are no due dates, but you’re expected to manage your time and get your work done.

Volunteer opportunities

I participated in a UMassD volunteer program called Community Companions. I volunteered at the Autumn Glen Assisted Living Facility. Each week, I interacted with people who had dementia, and it made me realize that I want to push myself to my full potential and help as many people as I can.
