Campus Services Department

Faculty and Staff Parking

After much analysis and dialogue with the campus community, UMass Dartmouth has begun to implement a student and senior administrator parking fee program for academic year 2007-2008 and a new designated parking program for the entire community, including staff and faculty. The goals of the program are to:

  • Increase security through greater police patrol of parking areas, improved lighting, and more extensive shuttle services;

  • Improve maintenance of lots for safety and convenience including repaving, re-lining, snow removal, etc.;

  • Decrease auto emissions on campus by lessening the use of cars as a preferred mode of transportation within the campus, especially from residence hall lots to inner Ring Road lots;

  • Develop a parking and transportation plan to increase UMass Dartmouth accessibility and accommodate growth.

Jeff Augustine, Director of Campus Services, will manage this new Parking and Transportation initiative.  As with any new endeavor, not everything will work smoothly the first time out of the box.  However, Jeff and his staff are committed to continuous improvement of the Parking and Transportation program and they welcome any comments or recommendations that you may have.  This first semester will be a learning experience for us, and we expect that necessary revisions will be made as we move through implementation.

The student/senior administrator program is scheduled to begin on September 4, 2007 when classes start.  We were hopeful that a similar program could be concurrently started for faculty and staff, but that will not be possible until the current collective bargaining process is completed. In the meantime, please observe the following instructions:

If you already have a decal: Reatain It

You may use it to park in any of the designated commuter parking spaces on a first come first serve basis. See the campus map on the other side of the page for the specific locations where you may park.

If you do not have a decal for your car: Decals can be obtained at the Department of Public Safety. You will need to provide a photocopy of your vehicle registration; show your drivers licsence and your UMass I.D card, and provide contact information.

You should register your car with the Department of Public Safety as soon as possible.  Strict enforcement of the parking plan will begin  September 17, 2007.  Please note that any car parked in an illegal space ( e.g. handicap, fire lane) at any time will be subject to ticketing and towing.

If you have any questions regarding faculty/staff parking decals, please feel free to contact the Department of Public Safety at  508-999-8121 or by email to rxifaras@umassd.edu.

We look forward to the start of a new academic year, and a new approach for addressing parking and transportation at UMass Dartmouth.
